What food do you recommend feeding my dog?
This is a great question to ask your veterinarian during your wellness visit. Most dogs do well eating a commercial dog food by Purina, Hill’s Science Diet or Royal Canin. If you have a puppy, please feed a puppy food until they are fully grown. If your pet has allergies or other medical conditions, please ask your veterinarian for specific recommendations.
Is my dog fat?
Many dogs are overweight, which can negatively impact your pet’s health and longevity. Did you know that lean dogs are likely to live 2 years longer than overweight dogs? Your veterinarian can calculate the number of calories and can help you determine the amount of food that your dog needs to be fed each day to achieve an optimum weight. As a general rule, we would like to be able to feel their ribs when touching their rib cage but not see them from across the room.

Where can my dog have a specialized veterinary nutritionist consultation?
If your dog has a condition such as food allergies or chronic diarrhea that has not improved with a prescription diet trial, ask your veterinarian if they recommend a consultation with a veterinary nutritionist. A veterinary nutritionist can also help develop a homemade diet for your pet that is complete and balanced. We typically will offer referrals through the following services:
