What can I expect during a cat wellness visit?
During a wellness visit, your cat will receive a comprehensive examination. Your veterinary team will discuss recommended vaccines, flea tick and heartworm prevention, routine diagnostic testing, behavioral concerns and nutrition and results of exam.
What wellness care is recommended for my kitten?
We recommend that all kittens have a fecal exam performed at each wellness visit to check for intestinal parasites (worms). Most kittens are born with worms as they are passed from their mother before they are born. The most common intestinal parasites in kittens are roundworms and hookworms, for which they will receive a dewormer during their visit. We may recommend an additional deworming medication if additional worms are found during their fecal examination.
The Feline Veterinary Medical Association recommends that all cats above 12 weeks of age be tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus. This is a quick blood test that will be offered during your kitten’s wellness visit.
We also recommend that cats not intended for breeding are spayed or neutered after 4-6 months of age.
We will also recommend vaccines during your cat’s wellness visit. FVRCP (the upper respiratory or Feline distemper vaccine) helps protect your cat against common causes of upper respiratory infections.
Feline Leukemia series is recommended for all kittens, and annually for all cats that spend time outdoors.
Rabies is required by law for all cats 16 weeks and older.

What wellness care is recommended for my cat?
- We recommend that your adult cat visit the veterinarian every 6- 12 months.
- At your cat’s wellness visit, we may recommend a fecal exam to check for intestinal parasites. (Feel free to bring us a fecal sample from the litter box that day!)
- Your veterinarian will update vaccinations as needed
- Your veterinarian will also perform a comprehensive physical examination and discuss any concerns that you may have for your cat.
- Your veterinarian may also recommend wellness bloodwork for your cat. Wellness bloodwork allows us to be aware of any emerging or early diseases in your cat such as kidney disease or hyperthyroidism.
How often should my cat go to the vet?
All healthy cats should be examined by a veterinarian at least once a year. If you pet has any health conditions that are being monitored, then your veterinarian may recommend more frequent visits.
