What kind of food should I feed my cat?

There are many diets that are available for cats. Most cats do best on a “canned food” or wet diet. We often recommend Purina, Hill’s Science Diet or Royal Canin for most of our feline patients. We can make a specific recommendation for your cat during your wellness visit based on your pet’s specific health needs.

How much food should I feed my cat?

The specific amount of food that your cat needs will depend on diet, size, activity level, and if they are at an ideal weight, under or overweight. We can make a more specific suggestion during your wellness visit.

Is my cat fat?

This is a great question to ask your veterinarian during your cat’s wellness visit. Many cats that we see are overweight, and this can negatively impact your pet’s health and longevity. As a general rule, we would like to be able to feel their ribs when touching their rib cage but not see them from across the room.

Where can my cat have a specialized veterinary nutritionist consultation?

If your cat has severe food allergies or chronic enteritis that have not responded to the recommended prescription diet trial, ask your veterinarian if they recommend a consultation with a veterinary nutritionist. We typically will offer referrals through the following services:
