Environmental Allergies & Allergy Testing
Environmental allergies are a common cause of scratching, itching, and dermatitis in dogs and cats. If your pet suffers from these issues, your veterinary care team will develop a personalized plan for your pet. This may include year round prevention to protect your pet from external parasites, a specialized diet, allergy medications, and/or allergy testing and desensitization.
If your pet’s health care plan includes allergy testing, then a blood test may be submitted to determine allergens that your pet reacts with and to design a desensitization program with either injections or oral drops. This is a non-pharmaceutical option available to dogs and cats 2 years and older.
